Schaumburg Park Foundation aids Illinois tornado disaster relief

All funds raised from the Schaumburg Park Foundation’s Dec. 3 Holiday Bazaar this year will be donated to Illinois disaster relief efforts to help families impacted by the Nov. 17 tornados.

The Foundation donated $2,100 to the Park and Recreation Disaster Relief Fund organized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). The entire donation will be given to families in the Washington area.

The 24-tornado storm resulted in loss of life, injuries and damage to more than 2,400 homes, including 1,000 in Washington.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting parks and recreation-related endeavors. The organization holds several fundraising events including the Bazaar, Solstice Hop and Vine Fest and the Links Technology Cup golf outing.

The Park and Recreation Disaster Relief Fund, one of many ways to help the Washington area, was set up by the IAPD, a non-profit service, research and education organization that serves park districts, forest preserves, conservation, municipal park and recreation departments and special recreation agencies.

IAPD also is coordinating Washington clean-up efforts with help from statewide park district and municipal maintenance crews. Additional donations are being accepted at ilparks.org.
